(ATC) is pleased to submit the results of a water supply well sampling event conducted on November 13, 2019, for the former Selma Perkinson Property located at 1825 US Highway 1 North in Wise, North Carolina. A site topographic map is included as Figure 1. Currently on-site is a single-story building used as a sweepstakes center. A site map is included as Figure 2. Previous assessment activities have indicated concentrations of 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) and 1,2-dichloropropane in water supply wells in the site vicinity. Water supply well locations are shown on Figure 3. The sampling event was performed based on an October 17, 2019, Task Authorization (TA-7) by the Trust Fund Branch of the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section, Division of Waste Management, North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ). The work is being performed as part of State Lead Contract #N17004 between NCDEQ and ATC. ATC mobilized to the site on November 13, 2019, to collect samples from water supply wells WSW- 7 and WSW-12. The samples were collected in laboratory-supplied, preserved containers; entered into chain of custody control; placed on ice; and shipped to North Carolina-accredited SGS North America Inc. (SGS) in Scott, Louisiana. The samples were analyzed for volatile organic compounds by EPA Method 6200B. Based on the results, 1,2-dichloropropane was detected above North Carolina Groundwater Quality Standards (2L Standards) in WSW-7. Chloroform, methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), and total xylene were detected in WSW-7 at concentrations below their respective 2L Standards. No compounds were detected in WSW-12. Water supply well information is included as Table 1. Current and historical water supply well analytical results are included on Table 2. Field notes from the sampling event are included as Appendix A. The laboratory analytical report is included in Appendix B. Water Supply Well Sampling Letter Report February 20, 2020 Selma Perkinson Property – Incident # 5392 ATC Project Number SLP0539207 2 ATC contacted the owner of water supply well WSW-7 regarding connecting to the municipal water supply and abandoning their water supply well. The owner of WSW-7 contacted ATC by telephone and indicated he was not interested in abandoning his well. Based on the analytical results, groundwater concentrations above 2L standards continue to impact water supply wells located in the vicinity of the site. ATC recommends quarterly sampling of water supply wells in the area. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact our office at (919) 871- 0999.
