(Terracon) is pleased to submit this Letter Report for the above referenced property. This report has been prepared in general accordance with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), UST Section Guidelines for Assessment and Corrective Action for UST Releases, dated July 15, 2008, revised December 2013 and Task Authorization No. 03, approved on October 10, 2019. Terracon personnel and Advanced Environmental Services (AES) mobilized to the site on November 11, 2019 to conduct a 96-hour Mobile Multi-Phase Extraction (MMPE) event at monitoring wells MW-1R and MW-6 (Figure 1). Prior to commencement of MMPE activities, Terracon measured free product thicknesses in monitoring wells MW-1R (0.01 feet) and MW-6 (0.53 feet). The MMPE event was conducted by AES from November 11, 2019 to November 15, 2019. According to the AES field report dated December 2, 2019, a total of 4,791 gallons of a product/water mixture was recovered from the two wells and mass balance calculations indicated total VOC emissions removed from the wells equated to 24.04 gallons. After the MMPE event, no free product was identified in the on-site wells. A copy of the AES field report is provided in Appendix A. Terracon has also provided a copy of our field notes in Appendix B and photographs in Appendix C. Terracon recommends sampling in the first quarter of 2020 to monitor the effectiveness of the MMPE event and conduct O-sox maintenance in well MW-6. The MMPE system was active for 96.0 hours. During the event vacuum at the recovery pump ranged from 16.0 to 19.5 inches of mercury (hg) and stabilized at approximately 17.0 inches of mercury. Airflow rates ranged from 3,000 to 3,700 feet per minute and stabilized at 3,200 feet per minute. System temperature ranged from 106 to 148 degrees (F) and humidity ranged from 52 to 99 percent. Field gauged volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) decreased from 18,000 parts per- million (PPM) to 7,600 (PPM) throughout the event. Groundwater / Product Mix Recovered: During the event, a total of 4,791 gallons of product/water mix were removed from the site and properly disposed at a certified North Carolina disposal facility. No free product was identified in the tanker following the event. Total fluids recovered, was measured based on stick readings conducted during and following the event. Based on 96.0 hours of operation and a total of 4,791 gallons recovered, the average groundwater recovery rate was calculated to be approximately 49.90 gallons per hour. Events Results: Based on mass-removal calculations 147.91 pounds or 24.04 gallons of VOC’s were removed as vapor. Using Dwyer Magnehelic gauges, vacuum influence (inches of water) was measured at monitoring points MW-2 and MW-3. No vacuum influence was observed in MW-2 or MW-3. Draw-down was observed in MW-2 and MW-3 at 0.09 and 0.09 feet respectively. Following the event, no free product was identified in any well.
