The site is located at 6641 US Highway 221, Mooresboro, Rutherford County, North Carolina (Figure 1). This letter, with attachments, presents the findings of our groundwater sampling event. Field Activities On December 19, 2019, personnel from ECS mobilized to the site to gauge and sample monitoring wells MW-2 and MW-3 (Figure 2). Monitoring well MW-3 could not be sampled due to the O-Sox that was installed in 2015 being lodged in the monitoring well and which could not readily be removed. Photographs of the site are attached to this letter. It appears that the monitoring well has been damaged, which is preventing the O-Sox from being removed from the well. Monitoring well MW-2 was purged by removing three well volumes with a disposable bailer and nylon cord. After purging was completed, a groundwater sample was collected from the well and transferred into laboratory preserved/provided sample containers. The field sampling notes are attached. The sample containers were labeled with ECS project number, sample identification, sample date and time, and requested analytical analysis. The containers were placed into protective packaging material and placed into a cooler with ice to maintain the sample at approximately four degrees and submitted to Pace Analytical Services, LLC in Huntersville, North Carolina (NC certification #12) for chemical analysis. The sample was analyzed for volatile organic compounds using Standard Method 6200B. Chain-of-custody (COC) procedures were followed from sample collection through the transportation process. A copy of the COC is attached. Groundwater Sample Results Review of the laboratory analytical results of the sample collected from monitoring well MW-2 indicated benzene and naphthalene at concentrations greater than their respective North Carolina 2L Groundwater Quality Standards (NC2LGWQS), but less than their respective Gross Contamination Levels. Additional compounds were indicated at concentrations greater than the SOURCE: USGS TOPOGRAPHIC MAP CHESNEE, SC-NC QUADRANGLE DATED 1993 CONTOUR INTERVAL = 6 METERS SCALE: 1 : 24,000 SITE FIGURE 1 ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPAMethod 8260. N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for each analyte is a combined concentration. Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. TNI - The NELAC Institute.
