The UST Section, Division of Waste Management, Mooresville Regional Office (MRO)
received the February 28, 2020 Groundwater Monitoring Report on March 2, 2019. The report
recommending installation of ORC socks and conducting quarterly groundwater monitoring events
was reviewed and approved on March 6, 2020. The paper report copy will be maintained in the
MRO. The electronic copy has been loaded to the electronic document storage system (Laserfiche).
The report indicates:
• The groundwater flow direction was generally to the south and southeast, consistent with
previous site information.
• Groundwater samples were collected from 13 site monitoring wells (GWO1, GW02, GW03A,
GW04, GW05, GW06, GW07, GWO8, GW09D, GW13D, GW14D, GW15, and GW15D).
Monitoring wells GW 10, GW 11, and GW 12 were intended for sampling but were dry and
not sampled during this event.
• No light non -aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) was present.
• The GCLs were not exceeded for any analyzed compound during the event.

• The groundwater sample collected from monitoring well GW02 contained a benzene
concentration of 9.6 micrograms per liter (ug/L), exceeding the North Carolina 2L Standard.
The groundwater sample collected from monitoring well GW 15D contained a benzene
concentration of 2.5 micrograms per liter (ug/L), exceeding the North Carolina 2L Standard.
• Other chemical constituents were detected in the sampled wells, however, all were below
their respective 2L Standards.
• On December 20, 2019 3 ORC socks each were placed in GWO1, GW02, GW03A, GW04,
GW05, & GW 14D.
The next Monitoring Report is due no later than May 31, 2020. If you have any questions
