Additional Comments:
This structural fill site is still in use as a rifle live fire range berm. The fill serves as a safety backstop for live fire
from the MCAS Cherry Point rifle training facility. The site is well maintained, and no ash was observed in or around
the perimeter of the fill area. A healthy cover crop of native warm season grasses is maintained on the side of the
berm facing the firing range (southwest side). Some erosion of the cover crop was observed on the lower toe of
the front slope due to regular impacts during live fire training exercises. No exposed ash was observed in this area.
The back side of the berm (northeast side) is mainly forested by pines and scrubby hardwoods with some
unforested areas of native warm season grasses.
*In order to retain cap integrity, maintenance should be conducted to repair the eroded area of the cover crop
noted on the southwest side of the impact berm.
