Executive Summary A LSA was issued October 26, 2013. After review of the LSA, the DENR required annual groundwater sampling. The three monitor wells and two water supply wells were sampled June 1, 2018 for analysis by method 6200B. No compounds were detected in any of the wells. C. Site History and Characterization Poplar Tent Service Station was closed and taken by the NCDOT for road construction, all but the back of the property was secured. The back portion was sectioned off, named parcel 47, and is currently owned by United Oil Company. Some old reports refer to the site as Parcel 47. The UST facilities were removed by the NCDOT; contamination as high as 7060 ppm of TPH/GRO was detected in the main UST basin. A LSA was required after the tank closure, but the NCDOT constructed a road atop the former tank basin. The NCDENR determined that the assessment could consist of three monitor wells installed in parcel 47. Monitor well -1 is within fifteen feet (up gradient) of the former tank basin and MW-2 is in the eastern portion of the former site building. Monitor well — 3 is in the southern (back - up gradient) portion of the property, it was installed to establish the direction of groundwater flow. E. Site Assessment Information The three monitor wells and WSWs 1 & 2 were sampled June 1, 2018 for analysis by method 6200B. All five samples were non -detect. A historical sampling table is attached; the lab analysis is on the accompanying CD. The monitor well samples were obtained after first purging three well casing volumes with a new, disposable bailer. The water supply wells were sampled after running the well taps for fifteen minutes. The samples were placed in laboratory provided vials, fixed with a chain of custody, and refrigerated at our office until delivery to PACE Analytical on June 4, 2018. F. Free Product not applicable G. Soil Remediation — not applicable H. Groundwater Remediation — not applicable I. Conclusions No petroleum compounds have been detected in the monitor wells in seven sampling events. A monitor well could not be installed directly into the source area due to NCDOT construction. Monitor well 1 is immediately adjacent to the former UST basin. Based on the LSA and the follow up sampling, it appears that the soil contamination detected by the closure has not impacted the groundwater. This is a reasonable assumption given the distance of MW-1 from the source, and the fact that the water table is approximately 40 feet beneath the surface. J. ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL -Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean -Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA Method 8260.
