NAME OF FACILITY: Gaston County Landfill PERMIT # 36-06
DATE AND TIME OF FIRE: 11/17/2019
HOW WAS THE FIRE REPORTED AND BY WHOM:
@ 10am
A citizen reported the fire at the landfill and the fire department was dispatched. The Fire Marshall then called the Landfill Administrator.
LIST ACTIONS TAKEN:
Dnce the Fire Marshall called the Landfill Administrator, he called in the appropriate staff. Staff mobilized equipment to haul dirt to smother the fire.
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE:
Unsure at this point. Once staff arrived, the fire was pushed off the working face and covered with dirt.
DESCRIBE AREA, TYPE, AND AMOUNT OF WASTE INVOLVED:
The fire occurred on the working face that had been utilized on Saturday. The entire area involved was 30'00'. Moving the trash and covering took a total of 1.5
lours.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO PREVENT THIS FIRE:
3arbage that burnt was covered with ADC prior to leaving on Saturday.
DESCRIBE PLAN OF ACTIONS TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENTS:
Continue to ensure limited working faces with daily cover. Make sure all operators are aware and alert of the loads being dumped to look for suspicious materials.
