The item(s) listed above were observed by Section staff and require action on behalf of the facility in order to come into or maintain compliance
with the Statutes, Rules, and/or other regulatory requirements applicable to this facility. Be advised that pursuant to N.C.G.S. 130A-22, an
administrative penalty of up to $15,000 per day may be assessed for each violation of the Solid Waste Laws, Regulations, Conditions of a Permit,
or Order under Article 9 of Chapter 130A of the N.C. General Statutes. Further, the facility and/or all responsible parties may also be subject to
enforcement actions including penalties, injunction from operation of a solid waste management facility or a solid waste collection service and any
such further relief as may be necessary to achieve compliance with the North Carolina Solid Waste Management Act and Rules.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
1. Facility staff stated current Permit to Operate and the current Operations Plan are on file at the Gaston County
Landfill. An updated Operations Plan was submitted for renewal and received by the section on November 1, 2019.
2. The facilities Household Hazardous Waste Generator Identification Number is NCPH00597001.
3. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility consists of permanent containment unit that has three separate lockers for
the temporary storage of household hazardous wastes (Locker #1 — Pesticides & Poisons; Locker #2 — Corrosives;
and Locker #3 — Flammable Liquids).
4. During the inspection, cans of pesticides were observed in Locker #1 and cans of paint were observed in Locker #2.
5. The last HHW event for 2019 will be held on November 9th. The county has contracted ECOFLO, Inc. to manage
the event.
6. The floor grates and space beneath the grates were clean and free of debris.
7. The containment unit is weathered and rusty. Gaston County has ordered the new containment unit to be relocated.
Information, new location and siting information will be included in the permit renewal application.
8. This unit is located on the grounds of the Gaston County Parks & Recreation facility at 1303 Dallas Cherryville
Hwy. (NC Hwy 276).
9. All three lockers were secured and locked.
10. Four collection events are scheduled each year. Typically, during the months of March, June, August and
November.
11. Each of the three lockers in the containment unit is equipped with an Ansul Fire Suppression system.
12. Reviewed weekly inspection reports (January 4, 2019 to October 31, 2019).
