Incident number: 88110
Risk Classification: High
The UST Section, Division of Waste Management (DWM), Mooresville Regional Office
(MRO) received the September 20, 2019 Annual Monitoring Report on September 25, 2019.
The report recommending continued semi-annual monitoring was reviewed and approved on
October 22, 2019. The paper report copy will be maintained in the MRO. The electronic copy
has been loaded to the electronic document storage system (Laserfiche).
The report indicates:
• With the exception of benzene detected in samples collected from MW-3 and MW-10,
contaminant concentrations were below NCGWQS in all groundwater samples collected
from monitoring wells during the October 2018 and April 2019 monitoring events and
the July 2019 baseline rebound monitoring event.
• No target analytes (BTEX and naphthalene) were detected above the NCSWQS in
samples collected from surface water monitoring locations during this reporting period;
target analytes have not exceeded the NCSWQS since implementation of the Revised
CAP (2010).

• No target analytes (BTEX and naphthalene) were detected above the NCGWQS in
samples collected from water supply well WSW-14 during this reporting period; there
have never been exceedances of NCGWQS in samples collected from nearby water
supply wells.
• There was no measurable LNAPL in any of the 25 source -area monitoring and recovery
wells in October 2018 or April 2019.
• During the reporting period, the biosparging and SVE systems each operated 95 percent
of the time. Generally, monitoring wells in the vicinity of the biosparging system
indicate elevated DO concentrations when compared with April 2015 baseline
measurements. Operation of the biosparging and SVE systems was suspended on May 1,
2019 to begin monitoring for the potential rebound of petroleum constituents under static
conditions for approximately I year.
• There were no detections of analytes above EPA and NCDEQ screening criteria in the
samples collected from soil vapor monitoring points in October 2018. Naphthalene was
detected above the screening level in samples collected from SV-5R in April 2019;
however, naphthalene was not detected in confirmatory samples collected in July 2019.
The next monitoring events shall occur in October 2019 and January 2020 with the
Groundwater Monitoring Report submittal due to this office by March 31, 2020. Kinder
Morgan/Plantation Pipe Line and Jacobs Engineering have performed excellent work at this site.
The UST Section appreciates your dedication and efforts toward remediation.
