FACILITY COMPLIANCE INSPECTION REPORT Division of Waste Management Solid Waste Section Page 2 of 2 ADDITIONAL COMMENTS 1) Mr. Railey had contacted the Division of Waste Management, Ms. Connie Wylie and myself, about the grease interceptors below the sinks in some of the cafeterias within the Vance County Schools system. 2) Met with Ricky on 06/27/2019 and looked at some of the grease interceptors and grease containers at some of the cafeterias. Pictures of the grease interceptors are below. The grease containers being used were technically designed for the used cooking oils / grease only. The larger in-ground grease traps are being pumped out by Valley Protein. 3) Told Ricky that if the school system wanted to handle the grease trap waste from the grease interceptors below the sinks that they would need a Septage Management Firm Permit. Reviewed with Ricky the requirements for obtaining a Septage Management Firm Permit and the procedures for cleaning / handling the grease from the interceptors. Cafeterias that have both the below sink grease interceptor and the larger in-ground concrete tank grease trap, you could probably get rid of the below sink grease trap and just use the in-ground concrete grease trap. Be sure to check with the sewer authority beforehand. 4) Vance County Schools were issued a Septage Management Firm Permit on 08/15/2019 for the handling of the grease trap waste from the interceptors. The Septage Management Firm Permits are an annual permit and have to be renewed, submission of application and permit fee, prior to December 31st.
