To: Mr. Arlen Burney From: Bill Barringer, Director of Public Works, City of Concord Please be notified the City of Concord has removed a 10,000 gallon underground tank previously used for gasoline . Two soil samples were taken, one on each end approximately one foot above the lower point of the tank. The tank is 10 ft. in diameter, 18 ft. long., with 3.7 ft. of cover. Samples were taken by shovel and placed in styrofoam cups with lids. Samples were taken November 5, at approximately 2:00 P.M. Samples were delivered to Pace Labs in Charlotte at approximately 8:30 P.M. November 6. All piping was directly above the tank. Samples were not taken directly under the tank because further excavation would endanger a 12,000 gallon diesel tank approximately 20 ft. away. Both tanks had been backfilled with sand and some groundwater made such unstable.
