Exposed coal ash was observed along a portion of the construction road identified on the map below. Extensive coal ash deposits were also observed in the sediment basin identified on the map below. Coal ash was also observed surficially and intermixed with soils in the northern berm of the sediment basin. Surficial ash deposits were also observed on the southern side of the construction road identified on the map below. MRO spoke with the construction superintendent who are currently building apartment complexes on the west/northwestern side of the property. He informed MRO that there are future plans to build more apartment complexes on the eastern portion of the site, which is where the documented 6-acre (45,000 cubic yard) coal ash structural fill is located. MRO briefly discussed that any plans to disturb the coal ash structural fill would require notification/coordination with DWR/DWM. Photo 3: Sediment basin — coal ash was observed in extensive deposits. Also note, the berm located where the arrow points, is where soils intermixed with ash material was observed. Photo 4: Corrugated plastic pipe that conveys stormwater to the sediment basin. Photo 5: Full view of sediment basin where coal ash deposits were observed. Photo 6: View of pond which water from the sediment basin flows to. No coal ash was visually observed in the pond.
