Hello Eric and Bob,
The Solid Waste Section is approving a 6 month trial of the engineered wood material you proposed, to evaluate
whether it is appropriate for composting. The approval is for the Davie County Compost Facility, permit
3004-COMPOST- 2014.
1. The trial feedstock is for Langboard OSB and Norbord OSB.
2. The trial approval is for 6 months for composting, followed by 6 month study involving pottings.
3. The compost containing this material should be kept in a separate area from other compost, so that specific
testing of the compost may be conducted at the end of composting or curing.
4. The maximum quantity of the product is 2000 cubic yards total for the 6 month trial.
S. Testing of the finished compost is required, to include (1) ammonia, (2) formaldehyde by EPA Method 8315A, (3)
VOCs by EPA Method 8260, (4) SVOCs by EPA Method 8270, and (5) metals and pathogens according to the
current compost rules. The samples must be composite and the number of samples must be representative of
the amount of compost generated.
6. Safety measures must be in place to protect workers from dust and emissions from the feedstocks and compost.
7. Measures must be taken to prevent dust and emissions from the feedstock grinding from leaving the compost
facility property boundaries.
8. At the end of the trial period, a written summary should be submitted, to include the total volume or weight
received, all testing completed, and a description of whether the trial was a success.
