The Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Section requested that we forward the data to your attention following each semiannual sampling event. The homeowner well sampling event at the Stokes County Landfill occurred on December 22, 2015. During the December 2015 event, samples identified as HO-2R-BF (before filter) and HO-2R-AF (after filter) were collected by Joyce Engineering and submitted to Prism Laboratories Inc. for analysis. The samples were analyzed for the Solid Waste Section’s Appendix I list of volatile organic constituents and for one additional Appendix II volatile organic constituent (dichlorodifluoromethane), which has been detected at the facility. A historical summary of detected organic constituents, the laboratory analytical reports, chain of custodies, and field data logs are included in the attachments. The following table summarizes the detected constituents from the December 2015 sampling event. Constituent NC 2L HO-2R-BF HO-2R-AF Blanks Benzene 1 0.94 J ND ND Chlorobenzene 50 6.8 ND ND 1,4-Dichlorobenzene 6 1.7 ND ND 1,1-Dichloroethane 6 1.8 J ND ND Dichlorodifluoromethane 1,000 3.5 ND ND Cis-1,2-Dichloroethylene 70 78.0 ND ND 1,2-Dichloropropane 0.6 0.53 J ND ND Trichloroethene 3 1.0 ND ND Vinyl Chloride 0.03 11.0 ND ND All concentrations are reported in micrograms per liter (µg/L). ND = Not detected above laboratory detection limits. J = Estimated concentrations below the QL or the SWSL. Highlighted data are in exceedance of NC2L Standards. Nine organic constituents were detected in the sample taken from before the filter; however, no constituents were detected in the sample taken from after the filter during the December 2015 sampling event. Dr. Rudo February 23, 2016 Page 2 of 2 The homeowner well will continue to be sampled on a semiannual basis before and after the filtration unit to ensure the unit continues to operate properly. In addition, the County has scheduled yearly servicing of the filtration unit to ensure adequate performance. Please contact Alex Everhart or Hannu Kemppinen at (336) 323-0092 with any questions or concerns related to the attached data. On behalf of Stokes County, we would like to thank you for your assistance with this issue. Sincerely, JOYCE ENGINEERING JOYCE ENGINEERING Hannu Kemppinen, P.G.
