The Mayo landfill leachate observation occurred today as planned. The leachate side slope pumps were shut off around
9am and returned to service around 1pm. The transducer levels in the two side slope risers normalized between 25‐in
and 35‐in. The transducer levels returned to normal almost immediately after the pumps were re‐engaged.
If you would like to understand the data in more detail we can discuss when you and Ben are onsite next week.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns‐

Subject: Duke Energy - Mayo Steam Electric Plant Landfill (PN 7305-INDUS) Leachate System Observation Scheduled
Shawn‐
As discussed on the phone this morning, Duke will be performing an observation of the leachate collection system at the
Duke Energy Mayo Steam Electric Plant onsite landfill (PN 7305‐INDUS). The observation is being conducted to assist
with calibrating the Leachate Management Tool (LMT) to ensure accuracy of leachate generation forecasts.
The observation will be conducted on January 23, 2019 beginning early morning. The leachate side slope pumps in the
waste unit will be turned off during the observation. Transducer levels will be monitored throughout the period of
2
observation with an anticipated end time of no later than 3:00pm. Once the observation is complete, the leachate
collection system will be returned to automatic operation.
There is a potential to conduct an additional observation in the future during wet weather conditions. Duke will notify
NCDEQ DWM if future observations are scheduled.
Regards‐
