(Shield) personnel, on behalf of Carolina Oil Company, mobilized to the Carolina Fast Mart #2 site on November 30, 2018 to obtain the monitoring and water supply well samples required to be collected per the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Notice of Regulatory Requirements (NORR) letter dated July 13, 2018. During our site visit, samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-5 as well as water supply well WSW- lA as requested in the NCDEQ NORR. Monitoring well water level measurements were obtained prior to sampling and field measurement parameters were collected at the time of sample collection using a YSI Pro Plus meter. Refer to Table 1 for historical groundwater elevation data and Appendix A for field measurement parameters. Figure 1 illustrates the site layout and monitoring well locations. The locations of the area water supply wells are illustrated on the 1,500- foot radius map presented as Figure 2. The laboratory analytical data for the samples collected on November 30, 2018 from the sampled wells are summarized in Table 2. The laboratory analytical data for the sample collected from MW- 5 indicated a naphthalene concentration of 14 micrograms per liter (ug/L) which is above the North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC), 15A 2L Class GA Standards (21- Standards) of 6 ug/L for that constituent. No other constituent concentration exceeded the 2L Standards in MW-5. The analytical results for the remaining samples, MW-4 and WSW -IA show that no constituent concentrations exceeded the 2L Standards. A copy of the laboratory analytical report for the November 30, 2018 sampling event is presented in Appendix B. Based on the laboratory analytical results for the previous sampling event in May 2018, the naphthalene concentration in monitoring well MW-5 has slightly decreased with this sampling event from19 ug/L to 14 ug/L. A summary of the historical laboratory analytical results is presented as Table 3. Per your request, Shield reviewed historical files for any abandonment documentation for the nearest water supply well (WSW-1) which is located on site. Based on a previous discussion with the store manager, WSW-1 was no longer in use as of December 2011. Water supply well WSW-1 is not in use but has not been abandoned. WSW-1 is still located on the site property. The oxygen released compound (ORC) socks in MW-4 and MW-5 were replaced during the November 2018 sampling event. The monitoring and water supply wells are scheduled to be sampled again in May 2019.
