RE: METHANE MONITORING RESULTS – SECOND QUARTERLY EVENT OF 2017 CLOSED HENDERSON COUNTY LANDFILL, PERMIT NO. 45-01 HENDERSON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA
Dear Jackie:
Attached are the results from the May 2, 2017, second quarterly methane monitoring event conducted at the above-referenced facility. As shown on the attached Boundary Gas Probe Monitoring Log, methane
was not detected above the lower explosive limit (LEL) in any compliance methane monitoring points during the event. Methane was detected below the LEL at compliance methane monitoring well MP-7 at 0.3
percent by volume. Methane was detected above the LEL at assessment methane monitoring well TR-3. Methane was also detected below the LEL in assessment methane monitoring well TR-2. No methane was
detected in the facility structures during this compliance monitoring event. This is the fourth consecutive event with no LEL exceedances in compliance monitoring wells.
This was the second quarterly methane monitoring event since the installation of the landfill gas cut-off trench between MP-4 and the waste unit, which was completed on December 16, 2016, and documented
in the January 13, 2017, Landfill Gas Cut-Off Trench Installation Report. Methane was measured from the two vents from the cut-off trench during the quarterly event to confirm that they are producing methane. A
monitoring log with the gas vent methane results is attached. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 336-852-4903.
Sincerely, GOLDER ASSOCIATES NC, INC.
