CDM Smith Inc., on behalf of Onslow County, is submitting an electronic copy of the October 2017
semi-annual leachate sampling results. This letter report presents the results of the recently completed
leachate sampling event at the Onslow County Subtitle D Landfill.
Leachate samples from the Onslow County Subtitle D Landfill were collected on October 5, 2017. Table 1
presents water quality parameters at the time of sampling. Each sample was measured in the field for
pH, conductivity, temperature, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and oxidation-reduction potential using a
YSI-556 multi-parameter water quality meter and a HANNA HI 98703 turbidity meter. Samples were
collected from the sumps at Phase 1A (Station #1), Phase 1B (Station #2), Phase 1C (Station #3), Phase 2
(Stations #5), and Phases 3 and 4 (Station #6).
Environmental Conservation Laboratories, Inc. located in Cary, North Carolina, analyzed the leachate
samples for North Carolina Appendix I volatile organic compounds and metals, biological oxygen
demand, chemical oxygen demand, nitrate, phosphorus, sulfate, and ammonia. Laboratory analytical
results are provided in Appendix A. A copy of this report will be placed in the operating record for the
facility.
