Dear Ms. Drummond:
CDM Smith Inc., on behalf of Wake County, is submitting an electronic copy of the September 2017
semi-annual leachate sampling results. Leachate samples were collected from the leachate sampling
station at the Wake County Subtitle D Landfill on September 22, 2017. Water quality parameters at
the time samples were collected are presented in Table 1. Shealy Environmental Services, Inc. located
in West Columbia, South Carolina, analyzed the leachate samples for North Carolina Appendix I
volatile organic compounds and metals along with biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen
demand, phosphate, nitrate, and sulfate. Laboratory analytical results are provided in Appendix A. A
copy of this report will be placed in the operating record for this facility.

Sample receipt,sample analysis,and data review have been performed in accordance with the most current approved NELAC
standards,the Shealy Environmental Services,Inc.("Shealy")Quality Assurance Management Plan (QAMP),standard operating
procedures (SOPs),and Shealy policies.Any exceptions to the NELAC standards,the QAMP,SOPs or policies are qualified on the
results page or discussed below.
RSK175-MEE
Insufficient sample volume was provided to perform matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate (MS/MSD)for analytical batch 52348 &52479.
An LCS/LCSD was run in lieu of an MS/MSD.
Metals 6020B
Sample SI21015-022 (LEACHATE)was diluted due to the nature of the sample matrix.The LOQ has been elevated to reflect the
dilution.
Sulfide
For sample SI21015-001 (MW-5R),the endpoint was inadvertently missed.When the analyst checked the volume of the titrant was at
least 8.0 mLs.Therefore,the result is at least 2.56 mg/L and less.Nitrate
NitrateSample SI21015-022 (LEACHATE)was diluted due to the nature of the sample matrix (high chloride).The LOQ has been elevated to
reflect the dilution.
It was noticed on 10/6/17,after an inquiry from Mat Colone that the VOA for the leachate sample was not in the pdf report.We then
noticed that our sample receiving folks had forgotten to add the VOA and mercury +the additional phosphorus that Janelle Farley
requested after-the-fact.The final results for these three analyses (VOA,mercury and phosphorus)are included inthis revised pdf
report.
