HomeMy WebLinkAbout9502_WataugaCoMSW_March2018_LFGResults_FID1088646_201803301 Werner, Elizabeth From:Don Marickovich <dmarickovich@daa.com> Sent:Friday, March 30, 2018 9:38 AM To:Werner, Elizabeth Cc:'Donna.Watson@watgov.org' (Donna.Watson@watgov.org); Karen Weber Subject:[External] EMO - 18 0330 - Werner (NCDEQ) - Watauga County Landfill - 1st Quarter 2018 Gas Monitoring Event - Notification of an Out of Compliance Probe Attachments:XLS - 18 0329 - Watauga County Methanes Since 2011.pdf CAUTION: External email. Do not click links or open attachments unless verified. Send all suspicious email as an attachment to  Report Spam.    Hi Elizabeth,    I work with Karen Weber here at Draper Aden Associates, and we do the gas probe monitoring at the Watauga County  landfill.    Yesterday, March 29th, we completed the first quarter gas monitoring event at the landfill.  We found methane in probe  2 at levels above the 5% compliance level.    Attached is a table that presents the methane concentrations in probes 1 and 2 since 2011. During this event, the  concentrations in % by volume in probe 2were, from shallowest to deepest, 14.6, 20.7, 27.8, and 37.5.    Probe 2 has occasionally been above the limit in the past, the last time was in 2011.  Typically, effective operation of the  active gas system has been able to keep the probe in compliance as you can see from the table. Draper Aden Associates  and the County consider that continuous operation of the active gas system will bring the probe back into compliance as  it has in the past.  We do not consider this exceedance to be a threat to human health.    The County will continue to operate the active system and will initiate monthly monitoring of probe 2, which will  continue until the probe is in compliance for three consecutive months.    Regards,    Don    Don Marickovich, P.E.
