1. The closed Pine Hall Ash Landfill was utilized primarily for the disposal of ash generated by the Belews Creek
Steam Station and ceased receiving waste February, 2004.
2. Initial closure plan approval for the approximately 37.9 acre landfill was issued by the Solid Waste Section on
December 7, 2007. Closure and cap construction was conducted April-December 2008. Additional approvals
have been issued for landfill cap repairs/refit and assessment monitoring since closure was complete.
Side slopes are well maintained.
3. During the inspection, the semi-annual ground water, surface water and leachate monitoring reports for the
sampling events conducted April 2017 and October 2017 were reviewed. Sixteen ground water wells and six
surface water locations were monitored.
4. No concerns were noted for the monitoring wells observed during this inspection.
5. Permanent edge-of-waste markers are in place and being maintained.
The item(s) listed above were observed by Section staff and require action on behalf of the facility in order to come into or maintain compliance
