Subject: Boise Cascade -Facultative Lagoon Closure
Mr. VanGelder,
The Raleigh Regional Office of the Division of Water Resources has received and reviewed documents provided by Boise
Cascade (Southern Veneer Specialty Products) regarding the facultative pond closure. Documents received include
sampling results, sludge disposal records, sludge and soil analyses, wastewater manifests, etc. On 10/3/2019, 1
personally inspected the pond and confirmed that no wastewater was being directed to the pond. The system was
recently upgraded to an EZ Treat System. The most recent version of permit NCO023442 requires the treatment pond be
decommissioned no later than 5 years from the startup date of the new treatment facility.
Please accept this email as confirmation that based on a records review and a site visit, this office considers the
facultative pond to have been properly closed. A separate email will be sent to Central Office staff to confirm the closure
has taken place.
