Box 10429 Southport, North Carolina 28461 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality Subject: Review of Duke Energy Progress, Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (NC0007064) Biological Monitoring Report (2016). Dear Mr. Moser: Thank you for your recent submittal of the 2016 Biological Monitoring data. Based on a review of the data provided in this document, we note that the estuary trawl sampling data is consistent with historic trawl data from the late 1980's through the early 1990's. Moreover, the screens and diversion structure continue to reduce entrainment and impingement of fishes. We further note a decrease in blue crab relative abundance data which is consistent with NCDMF data that suggests declining blue crab stocks statewide. In summary, the current dataset appears reasonably consistent with earlier data. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
