Aqua and RK&K have conducted pilot improvements to the Wildwood Green WWTP to reduce the total nitrogen in the effluent. The pilot improvements included two process changes to the activated sludge system: 1. Addition of mixers to the aeration basins to maintain mixed liquor suspension during anoxic phases of the cyclic aeration process. Due to the configuration of the basins a total of four mixers were installed, each with a rated power of 3HP. The mixers are pontoon mixers, floating on the surface. 2. Connection of a dedicated blower for the clarifier return activated sludge (RAS) and scum air-lift pumps to maintain sludge and scum withdrawal from the clarifiers continuously. The blower used was previously abandoned in place and repurposed for this application. 3. Addition of dissolved oxygen probes in each of the two aeration basins to monitor the dissolved oxygen during aerated and anoxic periods of the cyclically aerated basins. Included in this application package are the following: 1. Authorization to Construct Application 2. NPDES Permit 3, Schematic plan of the improvements 4. Cutsheet of the mixers installed The nature of the improvements will allow for the pilot improvements to extend into the full scale operation with no additional construction required. of the expansion will start upon receiving the Authorization to Construct and Sewer System Extension permits. The construction duration is expected to be approximately 8 -months from the notice to proceed granting the general contractor authorization to begin construction.
