HomeMy WebLinkAbout010010_Correspondence_20180830This info is in regards to Triple W Farm Mr Harold Woody Owner. When his permit was issued it was stated that he would need to get soil samples for T 30637 fields 1-6 so that PLAT could be run to see if any of these fields were high in Phosphorus. I received the results from the soil tests and ran PLAT on each field. All fields were ok except for Field 1 which had a high rating. He can use field 1 but can only apply waste at the phosphorus removal rate of 68 Ibs for fescue hay. The nutrient management program recommends applying 40 Ibs of P to Field 1. This should help bring his Plat rating down for this field in a few years. I gave Mr. Woody a copy of the tract map with Field 1 designated with a red check so he could better see which field I was talking about. I also gave him a letter stating that the PLAT rating was high for Field 1 and that he would only be able to apply waste according to his nutrient management plan for that particular field. I showed him the map with the field distinguished with a red check and also wrote on the map the maximum amount of waste he could apply to this field. After looking at the map and reading the letter he understands what he is required to do and I got him to sign it so hopefully there will be no question in the future. Thanks uepartn-,: nt of Wally Walker Environmental Quality Received Alamance SWCD 336-228-1753 x3 AUG 3 UI 2:?J Winston-Salem Regional Office I understand that after taking soil samples on T30637 (Oscar Guerin Farm) that the PLAT rating on Field one is high. As a result of this I have been notified that I can only apply waste based on the phosphorous removal rate for fescue hay which is 68 Ibs per acre. Even though the removal rate is 68 Ibs of P per acre the nutrient management software is only wanting me to apply 40 Ibs per acre to stay under the removal rate and to help lower the PLAT rating on this field. I have been given a Tract map with field 1 clearly marked with a red check to remove any doubt as to which field that I will need to lower the application rate on so as not to continue raising the P level above Nutrient Management requirements. $ -a7-l5 - The Waste Utilization table shown below summarizes the waste utilization plan for this operation. This plan provides an estimate of the number of acres of cropland needed to use the nutrients being produced. The plan requires consideration of the realistic yields of the crops to be grown, their nutrient requirements, and proper timing of applications to maximize nutrient uptake. This table provides an estimate of the amount of nitrogen required by the crop being grown and an estimate of the nitrogen amount being supplied by manure or other by-products, commercial fertilizer and residual from previous crops. An estimate of the quantity of solid and liquid waste that will be applied on each field in order to supply the indicated quantity of nitrogen from each source is also included. A balance of the total manure produced and the total manure applied is included in the table to ensure that the plan adequately provides for the utilization of the manure generated by the operation. The Leaching Index (LI) and the Phosphorous 1 Assessment Tool (PLAT) Rating are also provided for each field, where available. If a field's PLAT Rating is High, any planned manure application is limited to the phosphorous removal rate of the harvest biomass for the crop rotation or multiple years in the crop sequence. Fields with a Very High PLAT Rating should receiv, additional applications of manure. Regardless of the PLAT rating, starter fertilizers may be recommended in accordance Carolina State University guidelines or recommendations. The quantity of P205 applied to each crop is shown in the foil( table if the field's PLAT rating is High or Very High.
