Description of Treatment Process:
The Mount Airy Wastewater Plant has a capacity of seven(7)million gallons per day. The facility
consists of, mechanical bar screen, grit chambers, primary clarifiers, trickling filters, activated sludge
basin, secondary clarifiers, belt filter press, gravity belt thickener, chlorine contact chamber, sludge
holding tanks, and continuous flow meters. The plant is located at 318 Wastewater Treatment Plant
Road in Mount Airy.
II. Performance
Summary of Plant Performance for Fiscal Year July 1, 2018 -June 30, 2019.
The Mount Airy WWTP treated a total of 666.6 million gallons during this fiscal year, an average of
1.829 million gallons per day. The Mount Airy WWTP received no violations of permit conditions or
other environmental regulations during this fiscal year.

Copies of this report are available at the Public Works Department located at 440 East Pine Street,
Mount Airy,N.C. 27030.
