The North Carolina Division of Water Resources met with Johnny Greene and Randy Lowe at Buckland
Elementary School on 7/17/2019 to discuss the ongoing non-compliance. The findings and comments noted

Robbie Bullock, Robert Tankard and Scott Vinson (DWR WaRO) met with Johnny Greene and Randy
Lowe (Gates County Schools maintenance) to discuss the ongoing non-compliance with Buckland
Elementary School. Gates County Schools renovated both of the nitrification cells in 2017. Since the
renovations the wastewater system has not been able to consistently meet NPDES permitted limits.
The sand media in the nitrification cells that was replaced in 2017 was smaller than originally designed.
Gates County Schools replaced the sand with a more course sand on one of the nitrification cells
during the summer of 2018 with plans to replace the sand in the second nitrification cell in August
2019.
We talked with Johnnie Greene and Gates County Schools is looking to see is it feasible to pump the
wastewater from Buckland Elementary School to the new wastewater treatment plant owned by Gates
County.
