The press release shall be issued within 24 hours after the owner or operator has determined that the discharge has reached surface waters of the State. In the event of a discharge of 15,000 gallons or more of untreated wastewater to the surface waters of the State, publish a notice of the discharge in a newspaper having general circulation in the county in which the discharge occurs and in each county downstream from the point of discharge that is significantly affected by the discharge. The Regional Office shall determine which counties are significantly affected by the discharge and shall approve the form and content of the notice and the newspapers in which the'notice is published. The high level alarm did not notify us of the high level condition and has since been readjusted to a level that should prevent this from happening in the future. What kind of situations trigger an alarm condition at this station (i.e. pump failure, power failure, high water, etc.)? Pump contol float was removed from the ladder area where it was hung up where pumps immediately began to operate as they should . High level alarm float was readjusted to a level that should notify us through an auto dialer callout system of a high level situation. Discharge was released in a swamp area making pumping and/or cleaning up of of spilled materials impractical. As a representative for the responsible party. Spills of 15,000 gallons require that a public notice be published. NOTIFICATION OF WASTEWATER SPILL IN THE TOWN OF WILLIAMSTON, N.C. LOCATED IN MARTIN COUNTY On 7/18/19 the Town of Williamston, N.C. had a discharge of 5000 gallons of untreated sewage from a manhole located just off the dead end of Church Street in the adjacent swamp area next to Skewarkee Gut Canal located in the Roanoke River Basin.The spill was caused by a malfunctioning float control.The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality/Division of Water Resources in the Washington Regional Office was notified of this event at 1:45pm on 7/18/19 and is reviewing the matter.
