I would like to respond to the proposed creation of a swine facility by Ray and Loyd
Bryant near Center Road on SR 1375. My parents, Virginia Haire Pekora and Albert T. Pekora,
own property on Haire Road. Our property is close in proximity to this proposed operation, and
is valuable farm country. We have many concerns regarding the environmental impact of such a
swine facility, especially with regard to proper waste disposal. Swine farms have a terrible
reputation as being money making operations with inadequate attention to the regulations
designed to insure safeguarding the environment from waste pollution, as well as compassionate
care of the animals. Living near a swine farm has been sited as a health hazard, due to
contamination of the soil and water supply. The unpleasant odor certainly is another factor to be
considered, due to waste products and improper disposal of dead animals. This alone has the
potential of decreasing property values in the surrounding area. We expect that every effort will
be embraced to address these issues, and that monitoring will be routinely performed to insure
that the facility is properly maintained.
My family has known the Bryants for many years, and they have the reputation for being
honorable people. It is our expectation that attention will be paid to all of the safety regulations
that govern the process of running a swine farm I personally wish they had chosen to raise cattle!
