Dear Mr. Bolich:
This letter is in response to the findings of compliance evaluation inspection conducted by Jason
Robinson on April 5, 2019. We appreciate the opportunity to review our system with Mr. Robinson,
and make improvements as identified during the review. Please see responses as requested to item
numbers corresponding to your letter dated April 26,2019 below.
Item III.B-i FOG flyer was included in the Town newsletter Feb. 2018 and Feb. 2019. It
was also posted to the Town's social media outlets once, and posted in message boards around
town. The FOG flyer will be included in another newsletter during calendar year 2019.
Newsletters are packaged with utility bills each month.
Item III.B-ii We have found records that indicate that FOG inspections were conducted in
2017. Inspection program is being re -implemented immediately, and all site visits will be
conducted before end of 2019.
Item D Electronic copies of the sanitary system map indicate gravity and force main
with sizes. The map that was presented has been replaced with the new copy.
Item E High -priority lines have been inspected once in 2019. Subsequent inspection
will be conducted in Fall 2019. Inspections will be documented.
Item F System has likely been inspected, but there is a lack of documentation. This will
improve, and 100% of system inspection will be completed through 2019.
Item G All easements and rights -of -ways were cleared in winter 2018/2019, but dates of
work were not thoroughly documented. This will be done in the future.

Item H (_�tem cleaning was completed by way_ _ ngineer's Inspection during AIA
Study conducted in 2018. The Town plans to contract sin -ice for up to 10% cleaning in the
upcoming fiscal year. All work will be planned and documented. System cleaning performed
by staff will be documented, as well.
Item I A binder with all citizen -generated work orders was presented during site visit.
We will continue to maintain citizen complaints, as well as documenting maintenance
operations and installation of new services.
Item J Spill response plan has been updated to include all necessary information as
directed by Section 11.9 of the permit. Phone number list has been revised to reflect staffing
changes that have occurred since December 2018. Emergency contractor list has been updated,
as well.
Item M Record of 2018 Collections System Annual Report cannot be located.
Appropriate report for 2019 will be generated and posted on Town of Benson website.
Item IV.A-iii This Iine has been cleared and added to maintenance list.
Item IV.A-iv It has been identified that this line is no longer in service. Exposed portion of
pipe has been removed.
Item IV.A-v Line has been cleared and added to high priority list.
Item IV.B-i Pump Station list has been updated. List is included in this response.
Item IV.B-ii Alarm does not allow for increase in siren volume. Alarm was replaced with
Connery Mfg. Inc. Alarm Pak. Spec sheet indicates 103dB horn with red warning light.
Item IV.B-iii Wet well and floats have been cleaned of grease. Alarm system was replaced
with Connery Mfg. Inc. Alarm Pak. Spec sheet indicates 103dB horn with red warning light.

constructed mainly with brick. The majority of the sewer was constructed with 2 to 4 foot long segments
of vitrified clay pipe and Oakum type joints. These types of joints tend to decay away over a period of
years, making the sewers more susceptible to infiltration during high groundwater conditions. The newer
areas of the sewer system have been constructed with precast concrete manholes and primarily with PVC
plastic pipe. The integrity of the newer portion of the Town's system is far superior to that of the older,
although both portions of the Town's system need ongoing inspection and maintenance as they age.
Wastewater pumping stations are located throughout the gravity collection system at locations where
topography prevents the connection by gravity. There are l I sewage pump stations currently in service.
Pumps are of three types. Submersible duplex pump stations, suction lift duplex pump stations, and
duplex extended shaft, dry well mounted, solids handling pump stations. The pumping stations have been
inspected and deficiencies from current design standards noted. Table 1.2 lists the name, estimated year
of construction, and capacity of each station.
