here is a picture just down the road from the one i just sent you. this
one is of a G4 or A4, take your pick... (both are not considered to be
stable. a G4 has more sinuosity). This one i think has been in the
ground since september and was built w/o DWQ approval. in the upper part
of the picture you can see exposed erosion control matting. the ground
is bare beneath it and active erosion is occuring. the stream also seems
to be down cutting based on field observations. in this section many of
the constructed steps have under cut or otherwise have failed or are
failing. This would be expected based on the stream type and the size of
the stone used to construct the steps. this section did not have any
pools. Dave did catch some bugs in a lower section, i think. Dave
thought that there would be more bugs if the stream were more stable.
This project will hopefully be fixed by adding large boulders to creat
the steps. The boulders should act like bedrock grade control and a
riffle pool system will be formed (A2 type stream). Dave, Jennifer and I
found a better reference reach for this project since the original
reference reach used was not stable. the fix, if correctly implemented)
should work better.
