A settleability test taken shortly before the inspection began showed only about 200 mis within the first 30 minutes and then the sludge blanket rose to the top of the container within the first 45 minutes. Although plant effluent monitoring records show minimal violations over the past 18 months, and these settleability results only represent a single day, it may be prudent for the operator and owner to take action to more finely tune the activated sludge process in this plant.
