Our mission statement for managing our water resources facilities is expressed in three areas. 1. To surpass all North Carolina and US EPA Clean Water Standards 2. To operate in the most cost-conscious manner possible for our customers 3. To protect and enhance the public health of the New River Basin COLLECTION SYSTEM PERFORMANCE is critical to our river basin. The Town of Jefferson maintains about 18 miles of sanitary sewer mains, along with five pump stations. The system experienced no sanitary sewer overflows in 2018. We ask all sewer system customers to take steps to prevent cooking grease and oil from entering the system. Please find the attachment regarding the proper disposal of FATS, OIL, & GREASE (FOG) in your home to prevent sanitary sewer overflows in city mains. WASTEWATER PLANT PERFORMANCE The average daily flow at the wastewater plant was 0.235 mgd, which is about 39% of the plant's permitted capacity. Jefferson's WWTP discharges into Naked Creek which flows into a section of the New River that is designated by the State of North Carolina as Outstanding Resource Waters. As a result, the Town's discharge permit contains some of the strictest limits issued by the North Carolina Division of Water Quality.
