For our surface water discharge permits, we normally look for aquatic species only. I'm not sure what we would do differently for a plant species here, but I've copied the permit writer (Mike Randall) and my Supervisor Bradley Bennett. There are obviously concerns with respect to erosion and sediment control, for example, or other aspects of the larger project at hand, but those pieces are usually outside the purview of our NPDES permit. I'll make sure Mike is aware of it, though. Bradley, do you have any thoughts on this? If you need more information from us for this project, please let me know. I typically let folks know that they should contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service directly if there is a Federal listed species within the project area, and for the species that triggered this notice in particular (Dwarf -flowered Heartleaf — Hexastylis naniflora) we have a lot of information because we've worked with USFWS on a survey update in the past couple years. James Padgett, a NCNHP inventory biologist, has likely surveyed this site (and others) for this species. Also, I may have reviewed a project for this site in the recent past. Let me know if you'd like me to look it up and send you our comments, if any. Thanks!
