Dear Mr. Barnett,
This letter is in response to your letter requesting mare information on my shoreline
stabilization permit.
Item 7. The amount of impact below the normal pool level (1200') will be 3'x2S0 for a
total of 7S0 sgft. This will be riprap.
Item 8a. The amount of impact above the normal pool level will be 7'x250 for a total of
1750 sgft. The riprap will only go up to elevation 1202. (S00 sgft) The remaining
disturbed area will be shaped up (due to overhanging dirt from erosion} and mulched.
(1250 sgft) All trees that are disturbed or damaged will be replaced. We will replace
inch for inch the trees that are damaged.
Item 8b. The land above the pool level (where I am proposing stabilization) is eroded
from wave action. It is undermined and the red mud is very visible. This will continue to
erode without same stabilization. Now, the eroded area is approx. 10' high above the
water. Lot S has approximately 1000 feet of shoreline. I am only trying to stabilize the
area that is eroding severely. (approx. 250 ft) The trees that have fallen and are in the
water, and are in the way of the dock, will be moved closer to lot 6, in order to help deter
erosion where there will be no riprap. There are no large, live trees that will be impacted.
Most are 1" to 2". As shown on the pictures, most are leaning into the lake naw and will
eventually fall in with more erosion.
I will enclose pictures of the site from the water and a drawing of the proposed area to be
stabilized.
Sincerely, ~" ~ ~ ~: ~s

2. Application Item Number 8, b, slates that 23 trees will be removed as part of this
stabilization project. As Lake James is a buffered lake (15A NCAC 02B .0243)
which requires a permanent buffer, a plan showing what vegetation exists, where it
wilt be removed, and how it will be restored, in accordance with the North Carolina
Administrative Code, must be submitted as part ofi the application.
3. Additionally, Application Item Number 8. b., requests you describe vegetation within
50 feet of the shore and what wilt be disturbed. As no lot layout is included with
your application, this office is unable to determine if a suitable building site can be
situated on the lot without impacting the vegetation within 50 feet of the shoreline.
You must submit information which clearly provides he necessary information indicated
as being needed above, or modify your request to' reflect a reduced and justifiable
amount of impact. Please respond before November 27, 2006 by sending this
information to both the 401 Permitting Unit at:
