Duke Energy would hike to re -use the soil from the Intermediate Dike at Riverbend Steam Station as
general fill on -site. The Intermediate Dike formerly separeated the Ash Basin Primary and Secondary
Cells. It was removed in 2017 due to ongoing ash basin excavation and is currently stockpiled in the Ash
Basin Primary Cell. The stockpiled soil (as well as the soil underlying the storage area) was PLM tested
and determined to be ash free. The attached Soil Sampling Work Plan has been assembled in order to
analyze the levels of total metals present in the soil to determine if it is suitable for general fill on -site.
The sampling number and locations have been determined by following UST guidelines, per the direction
of NCDEQ Division of Water Resources and Division of Waste Management Soild Waste Section. This
direction was communicated via phone and email on March 19, 2018.
Attached you will find the Soil Stockpile Work Plan. This plan is being submitted to your office for
approval. This information is only being submitted electronically. Please let me know if you would hike
to receive a paper copy.
Respectfully submitted,
/ C5
