NCDOT TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING FOR THE PROPOSED
WIDENING OF I-40 FROM I-85 TO THE DURHAM COUNTY LINE
IN ORANGE COUNTY
TIP PROJECT NO. I-3306A
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed
widening of 11.4 miles of I-40 between I-85 and the Durham County Line in Orange County.
The interstate would be widened by one lane in each direction to bring the highway up to three
lanes each way, improving traffic flow along that corridor and helping relieve heavy congestion
that develops during commuter times. The project would also improve the N.C. 86 exit and
sections of that highway for several hundred feet both north and south of the interchange.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, January 24 at the Passmore Center-Great Hall
located at 103 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough from 4-7 p.m. The public may attend at
any time during the meeting hours. Please note there will be no formal presentation.
At the meeting there will be maps of the proposed plans as well as project team members who
will be available to answer your questions and receive feedback All comments will be taken into
consideration as the project progresses. The opportunity to submit written comments will be
provided at the meeting or may be done via phone, email, or mail no later than February 8.
