DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Project purpose: Improvements to and connection of Louis Stephens Drive Extension (SR 1632) from O'Kelly Chapel
Road (SR 1628)/Little Drive (SR 2153) in RTP to Poplar Pike Lane in Morrisville. Also, intersection improvements at Louis
Stephens Drive (SR 1632) and McCrimmon Parkway (SR 1635)
Existing structure: Existing two-barrel structure conveys UT to Kit Creek at 26+00 Lt/Rt. There are no anticipated
improvements to the structure. However, a grass swale ditch will convey stormwater runoff to the stream channel above
the culvert inlet.
IMPACT SUMMARY
Permanent Stream: 15 linear feet of permanent stream impact associated with bank stabilization of UT to Kit Creek.
Temporary Stream: 19 linear feet of temporary stream impact with dewatering to conduct bank stabilization in the dry
at UT to Kit Creek.
Wetland: 0.14 ac of permanent wetland impacts at Site 1 and 0.19 ac of permanent wetland impacts at Site 2. These
impacts are associated with the roadway improvements.
Is mitigation proposed for project?: Yes, mitigation is proposed for wetland only impacts this project. Previous
conversations with Eric Alsmeyer indicate 1:1 mitigation ratio at Wetland Site 1 and 2:1 mitigation ratio at Wetland Site
2.

Northern lon� eared bat: BC of May Affect, Likely to Adversely Affect based on programmatic biological opinion with the
FHWA, NCDOT and USACE that allows for incidental take for NLEB for projects with a federal nexus in Division 5.

foraging habitat. There will be No Effect on this species.
Atlantic Stur�eon: The project is not located in the NMFS designated critical habitat for Atlantic Sturgeon. There will be
No Effect on this species.
Cape Fear Shiner: Unnamed tributary to Kit Creek at the location is highly incised, degraded and surrounded by
development. Suitable habitat is not present at the site for this species. There will be No Effect on this species.
Michaux's sumac: Suitable habitat exists along the maintained roadsides and easements at the site. No Michaux's
sumac were observed during the site visit on June 7, 2017. There will be No Effect on this species.
