Subject: GUC intake dredging, Pitt Co
Toby,
I've consulted our fish biologists after our discussion last week. It is understood the proposal is to remove approximately
5,000 CY of material near the GUC intakes by mechanical dredging with material being placed in an area outside the
DWR Tar -Pamlico buffer. The task would take approximately 2 weeks (500-800 CY/day). This schedule information, in
addition to the project description, was essential for consideration to work into the February 15 — September 30
moratorium condition for DWR permit #20090266.
The proposed river levels for the Tar River in Greenville are projected to be 12.4' on Saturday January 19. Although it is
understood clearance under the bridge is a limiting factor, it is unknown at this time when the project could begin. To
protect important aquatic resources, we cannot give open ended moratorium relief. However, an extension until
February 28, 2019 can be granted. By this time, spawning adult anadromous fish should be present in the area and
therefore would be affected by the in -water work activities.
Thank you for the contact and project information. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional
comments, questions, or concerns.

Subject: Dredging
Good morning Toby,
You asked me a couple weeks ago to give you some idea of the area in the river we wanted to focus dredging
on. The priority is the area near intake 2 (downstream) -approximately 50' long and 20' wide with a depth
between (-)7 to (-)8 ft. mean sea level. The level of the screens at intake 2 is -7. In the event we haven't met
the 5,000 -cu yd. threshold near intake 2, we would like to dredge above Intake 140' long and 15' wide with
approximate depth of -5 ft. mean sea level. A buffer from both intakes of about 5 ft. I'm not sure if the
attached helps but it is a picture of what I have just described above. Hope this helps.
