Subject: water filtration results/messages
We did receive the slides that Dr. Knappe presented last night atthe forum in Brunswick. He requested that they not be
shared broadly, since the data are "hot off the press" |nlight ofhis findings, | suggest that vveupdate our messages
regarding water filtration to include statements like those proposed below. Please let me know if anyone has other
thoughts orsuggestions. Thanks.
Should I purchase a water filtration system for my house so as to remove the GenX from my water?
We are not currently recommending that you purchase a water filtration system. Preliminary data suggest that reverse
osmosis filtration systems might be effective at removing GenX and related chemicals from water, although we are not
aware of any studies that have been published on this topic to date. Families who do choose to purchase a water
filtration system should keep in mind that most systems (?) require monitoring and maintenance to make sure they are
working properly.
My water softener company says they can remove all of the GenX from my home water, doyou agree ordisagree
with them?
We are not aware of any published studies on the effectiveness of particular softeners or filtration systems for removal
ofGenXor related chemicals. However, preliminary data suggest that reverse osmosis filtration systems might be
effective for removal ofthese compounds.
