Thank you for the follow up email from yesterday's forum. Glad to hear that the dialog was a helpful way to share information. I appreciated being a part of the panel. As part of moving forward with regulatory reviews, we are exploring options on legislative changes to the current processes. Some may be at the state level and others at the federal. Your thoughts are very much appreciated, and we will carry them forward in the discussions. Sheila <sheila.holmanCd),ncdenr.gov> Subject: Thank you DEQ-CFW-00022071 Dear Sheila, I am a resident of New Hanover County. Thank you for attending the event in Wilmington last night. It must have been difficult for you because I was aware of some hostility from the people attending toward our regulators. You seemed to handle it well, and I even saw a little smile from you. And thank you for the work on the GenX water pollution. I am sorry that you that did not get more time to explain the work of the DEQ. I think it was a useful meeting but it would be much more informative to have just a few panelists at one time. Perhaps that can be arranged later. The point was made last night that discharge permits are allowed for substances to be dumped in our water supply without any indication that the substances are safe for us to drink or otherwise use. This seems like a very wrong-headed approach to water regulation. Why can you not turn the tables and require polluters to prove that substances are safe before they are allowed to dump them in the river? Yours sincerely, Bill Black DEQ-CFW-00022072
