NOTICE OF A CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE PROPOSED
REPLACEMENT OF THE SECOND TRACK BETWEEN THOMASVILLE AND
LEXINGTON
TIP Project No. C-4901
Davidson County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold the above
Citizens Informational Workshop on Thursday, August 13, 2009 between the hours of
5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Davidson Community College in the Felix 0.
Gee Building - Room 187 located at 297 DCC Road, Thomasville, 27360.
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer
questions and receive comments about the proposed project. The opportunity to submit
written comments or questions also will be provided. Interested citizens may attend at
any time during the above mentioned hours. Please Note: No formal presentation will be
made.
This project proposes to replace the second track between Thomasville and
Lexington. The project begins at Bowers, about 1.5 miles northeast of Upper Lake
Road (SR 2024) and extends to.Lake, about one mile southwest of Turner Road (SR
2005), a distance of approximately 4.2 miles as shown on the attached map. The
project area historically had double tracks to accommodate traffic, but the second set of
tracks was removed in the 1960's to reduce maintenance costs. The recent dramatic
growth in rail traffic is overwhelming the single track layout necessitating the
replacement of the second set of tracks. The proposed track would primarily be in the
same location as it was historically. The old roadbed for this track is currently being
used as an access road. In addition, minor railroad realignments and safety
improvements are being evaluated as part of the project.
Anyone desiring additional information concerning this project may contact Mr.
Marc Hamel, Environmental & Planning Branch, Rail Division at 1553 Mail Service
Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1553, via phone (919) 733-7245 x 270, via email

Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this workshop. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Mr. Hamel as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
