Subject: RE: Follow -Up re: 1,4 dioxane
The part that isn't in the report is what is the state doing regarding the dischargers that are now known to be adding the
contaminant.
Are there new permit limits? If not, why not? How have staff been working with and communicating with the
dischargers tofind the source ufthe contaminant and get itremoved? | think that's the kind oftransparency that would
be helpful here.

Chad and I talked with Catherine this morning and gave her the background and where things
are at this paint of the initiative. When she asked what the cities were doing we suggested she
contact the State or the cities themselves since we weren't in a position to say where they
stood in their efforts to reduce Dioxane that is being discharged to their ww treatment.
facilities. More than one time we reiterated that the intent of this initiative was to
cooperatively work on reducing the exposure of downstream drinking water users to Dioxane
and not pursue an adversarial regulatory approach.

Great Chad! Thank you so much to both of you for making time on short notice.
Google Maps tells me it will take me 1.5 hours to the Public Works Commission,
955 Old Wilmington Road, Fayetteville. (Correct address?) I can plan to leave
Durham by 7:30. To be safe regarding morning traffic etc., shall we plan to meet
at 9:30?
Is there anything you think I should read in advance of our interview? Would it be
possible for me to get a peek at any adjustments you've made to your water
treatment, intake processes to address the presence of 1,4 dioxane?
Best wishes,

Hi Chad and Mick. I'm resenting my message to
