DEQ events this week
Aug. 22,10 a.m.: The N.C. Sedimentation Control Commission will
meet in the Archdale Building's ground floor hearing room.
Aug. 22: PWS Section Chief Jessica Godreau will be in Denver,
August 22nd as a member of the national Water Research
Foundation's Public Council on Water Research. The Council
provides input on research needs that address broad social issues
affecting the water community to address currenrt and emerging
challenges.
Aug. 22: Hazardous Waste has a public hearing on Aug. 22 regarding
a permit renewal for Clean Harbors in Reidsville.
Aug. 23: DWR—Maya Cough -Schulze and the Division of Soil and
Water Conservation's Joey Hester will be presenting "Tools of
Watershed Management" at the Conservation Employee Training
Institute August 23 at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle
Park.
Aug. 24: PWS' Dyk Luben will give a Rules Update at the NCWOA
Pumps and Distribution Seminar August 24th from 8 a.m. — 4 p.m. at
the Nags Head Fire Department, Station 16, 5314 S. Croatan
Highway, Nags Head, NC 27959.
DAQ Director Mike Abraczinkas and Deputy Director Michael
Pjetraj will be visiting staff at the regional offices throughout the
month. The schedule includes: Aug. 14 Monday, Raleigh; Aug. 16
Wednesday, Wilmington; Aug. 25 (tentative), Fayetteville; Aug. 25;
Winston-Salem; Aug. 28, Asheville; Aug. 29, Mooresville; and Aug.
30 (tentative), Washington.
Looking Ahead
Sept. 7: The U.S. EPA will hold a one -day workshop designed to
bring together water utility staff and emergency services personnel to
discuss concerns and priorities during a water outage incident. The
workshop will take place September 7 h at the Division of
Emergency Management's main office at 1636 Gold Star Drive in
Raleigh, from 8:30 a.m. — 3:30 p.m.
Sept. 20: State Water Infrastructure Authority meeting at N. C. Rural
Center, 4021 Carya Drive, Raleigh.
Sept. 20 — 22: DAQ is hosting the Association of Air Pollution
Control Agencies (AAPCA) 2017 Fall Business Meeting in Raleigh.
Location: Doubletree by Hilton Raleigh (Brownstone -University).
Registration opens soon. The meeting will include open sessions for
all interested participants and closed sessions limited to AAPCA
members and govermnental attendees.
Sept. 27-28: The Coastal Resources Commission will meet in
Wilmington. Location to be determined.
Oct. 10-11: Division of Water Infrastructure's Kim Colson and
Francine Durso will be speakers at the Water & Finance Management
Journal's 2017 Water Asset Management Conference in Boston. The
Water Asset Management Conference gathers CEOs, directors,
general managers, asset managers and other decision makers of
water, wastewater and stormwater utilities for a two-day discussion
around challenges and strategic management solutions for water
infrastructure.
Nov. 7-8: The Coastal Resources Commission will meet at the Hilton
Doubletree in Atlantic Beach.
