From: Allocco, Marcia Sent: Friday, February 06, 2015 10:27 AM To: Massengale, Susan Subject: 1,4-Dioxane and NCSU Professor Barbara and | attend a training dauu yesterday where w/e presented on sampling and water and wastewater compliance. As part of the day's events was a presentation from a NCSU professor named Detlaf Knappe and he discussed emerging pollutants for drinking water. Henoted 1,4'dioxaneasanemerging pollutant and | have included a scan ufthe relevant pages from our handouts. The table isofinterest asitnotes concentrations ofl4-dioxanein finished water from NC drinking water systems across the state and it also notes NCSU's detection of the compound in the Haw River at 83 uo/L The data from the water systems was available from the EPA and comes from a requirement for water systems tu monitor for emerging contaminants; compounds that may have drinking water standards developed for them inthe future. Unfortunately, data on the concentration of the compound in the water system's raw water isnot available from the EPA (Mr.Knappe'sstatement). Thought the attached might be of interest.
