0 1,4 — Dioxane was included in EPA's Third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UMCR), under the
authority of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
w In looking at data from across river basins in NC, the Cape Fear River basin levels made us concentrate on it first.

* D\NR is using authority under lSA N[AC 02H. 0508(b)(1) to require additional sampling at facilities of concern
based on the study.
We have been actively working with Reidsville, Greensboro, Asheboro and Pitt boroto encourage source
reduction — they have been working with
the facilities that discharge to their treatment systems to see if they can reduce the load by product substitution,
pretreatment or other method.
* Our DVVR lab isbringing equipment online this summer to certifying attest method. (The current method used
bnot a
wastewater method). PermhteeswiU berequired to use the certified method when it is available.
