As part of the investigatN.C. DEQ collected groundwater samples from 14
groundwater monitoring wells on the Chemours property in August 2017. The
results from the samples show that x wells had levels of PFAS in the ground water
above what is allowable by their permit [or something like that. In addition, 13 of

the wells had detectable levels of GenX above the N.C. Department of Health and
Human Services (DHHS) drinking water health goal (explain here) and 4 wells had
detectable levels of PFOA or PFOS above the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Drinking Water Health Advisory level (explain here). N.C. DEQ
needs more information to figure out if GenX and related compounds have moved
into groundwater near the Chemours property, which is why the state is reaching
out to residents who have wells within a mile radius of the Chemours facility.
