The groundwater was not tested for other PFAS chemicals. • PFOA was detected in 6 of the 14 wells, at concentrations ranging from 0.019 to 5.3 µg/L (micrograms per liter, or "parts -per -billion") • 3 of the 6 detections of PFOA were greater than the May 2016 USEPA lifetime Drinking Water Health Advisory level for PFOA, PFOS or (PFOA + PFOS) of 0.07 µg/L 2 of the 6 detections were greater than the current NC DEQ groundwater IMAC (Interim Maximum Allowable Concentration) concentration of 2 µg/L • To our knowledge, no one is using these groundwaters as a drinking water source. There is no health risk if no one is drinking the PFOA contaminated groundwater. The USEPA states that the lifetime health advisory for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water is protective of both short-term (weeks to months) exposures during pregnancy and breast- feeding, as well as protective of life -time exposures. The USEPA also indicates that short-term exceedances of the health advisory level during pregnancy or breast-feeding, or over a life -time, indicate the potential for adverse health effects. Reference: Drinking Water Health Advisory for Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA). United States Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Water. EPA 822-R-16-005. May 2016. Additional notes: 1. The sum of all PFOA detects = 6.47 µg/L 2. Using zero for the non -detects: a. The mean of the 6 detections = 1.08 µg/L (greater than the HA value; less than the IMAC) b. The mean of all 14 GW samples = 0.462 µg/L (greater than the HA value; less than the IMAC) DEQ-CFW 00070774
