Enclosed, please find the aquatic toxicity update for the 1st quarter of the 2013-2014 federal fiscal year.
The Aquatic Toxicology Unit (\TU) would like to thank all regional office staff for your cooperation in our effort to
monitor toxicity in North Carolina's waters. We would especially like to thank you for your efforts in helping us meet our
goal uftesting all major permitted facilities within a1O-yearperiod.
Please keep the following in mind when scheduling tests for 2013-2014:
* Try to give us as much advance notice as possible when scheduling tests. This will allow us to avoid scheduling
conflicts and help to ensure that we have an adequate number of test organisms available for all scheduled
* Check with us prior to scheduling tests with Fathead Minnow/or K8ysid shrimp requirements. We purchase
Fatheads and K8ysidsfnzm a commercial supplier and may need to secure funds prior to purchasing. This is
especially important inJune and July.
* Contact us if you would like to complete additional toxicity testing for facilities experiencing problems or for
special projects and unique circumstances. We are more than happy to perform toxicity testing on samples
other than those used tosatisfy the annual testing requirement.
ATU would also like to thank all of the regional office staff that have communicated with us offering suggestions,
comments and seeking clarification regarding toxicity testing and sampling procedures. As always, we continue to
review our methods and vvuu|d welcome any suggestions that you may have that would improve the sampling and
