I was away on vacation for two weeks. Fish ladders on the Cape Fear River are still in the works. The Army Corps of Engineers is still assessing the use of fish ladders at lock and dam 1, 2 & 3. The fish ladders would mitigate for work that the Corps is doing down in the estuary near Wilmington. The lead biologist on the project. is Frank Yelverton. I believe that it is looking like fish ladders are the best method of moving fish upstream. They have also looked at removing the dams, however at least for lock and dam 1 and 2 this is not a viable option due to water intake pipes upstream of the existing dams. Let me know if you would like any other information. Have a great day. I am very interested in a collateral matter which I have seen in the news media and I recall that a legislator advocated fish ladders on the Cape Fear to help the fish migrate up stream over the dams that would substantially increase the fishing population. Please let me know if that passed and if for any reason it did not, I would appreciate your suggestions as to whom I might contact to offer encouragement. Years ago, I was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly and was a big supporter of water quality for the Neuse River and have a continuing interest in making as many public bodies of water potable as possible. Thank you for your work and with best wishes, I am Sincerely, Sam Johnson, Atty. Johnson, Hearn, Vinegar, Gee & Glass, PLLC P.O.
